It’s my birthday, I can [procrastinate] if I want to.

29 Mar

I’m smack dab in the middle of ringing in my 21st birthday, in style.

ORU style.

Meaning, water, stale granola, and working on a huge assignment.

(For the innocent: ORU does not allow the consumption of alcohol by anyone at the school – faculty, students, etc – anywhere, for as long as you’re enrolled/employed).

I just want to thank all of you once again for all of your prayers and support. I am honestly doing much, much better. A lot of good has come out of this little valley, and I’m hopeful for the future. What exactly the future holds looks different than it did a few weeks ago, but I think I’m ready for it.

To clear up some concerned inquiries (and a rude one) I’ve received:
1) Confirmation is still like, the largest thing on my horizon right now. Unfortunately, y’all are stuck with me. Enjoy your last four weeks without having to, you know, count me as a full-fledged Catholic.

2) Yes, Eli and I did break up. No, there was not some huge, dark, tumultuous drama. We’re just moving in different directions, and that’s okay. Just because a relationship doesn’t end in “I DO” doesn’t mean it’s a failure (does that sound familiar, sorority sisters?). We learned from each other and we grew. A perfectly amicable split.  He’s a fabulous man, and I’m honored to call him a friend.

3) I did not get “hit upside the head with a grumpy stick.” But I really like that phrase and I’m going to steal it, if you don’t mind. The usual snark and borderline irreverence is on its way back. If you’re wanting a blog by a perfect Catholic, then go visit Jen, Hallie, Kimberlie, basically, you know, anyone but me. I’m 20. Er, 21. I’m new to this. I will make mistakes, there will be plenty of them, and I’ll probably even like a few of the ones I make and drive my confessor crazy. Sorry.

So, in short, I’m back. Yay? Yay. I think so.

*sighs* i remember 21. it was… almost 10 years ago.

it’s trippy to go and read my archives from 10 years ago. all the things i was obsessing over then are so minor in my life now.

if you want to drive your confessor crazy, you can always be like martin luther and obsess about your sins so much that your confessor will tell you to go out and sin for real before coming back and talking to him. (and you wonder why us lutherans love luther’s advice to “sin boldly”?)

Haha, but me on the not perfect Catholic blog list. I blogged about missing mass. Okay not missing. Skipping. I almost thought I shouldn’t lest people stop reading, then I realized its probably better to just be honest anyway. I’m not the magesterium. (If I were…I’d have some changes I’d like to make. For starters – no more pointy hats, guys.)

    Happy birthday!
I like reading your posts, they make me realise I’m not alone. Hey *wave* you’re not alone!

Now, Kassie, there is no perfectionism to be found on my blog. Just utter wretchedness. Going through a bit of a “dark night” right now. People might want to avoid my blog.

Happy, Happy Birthday to you Sweet Friend!!! Can’t wait to see tomorrow night!

Happy Birthday! and good luck dealing with being broken up- one good thing about never dating and then marrying my first boyfriend at 27 was I never had to deal with what you are going through right now.

Alcohol- I didn’t drink on my birthday either! Too busy working and schooling and everything….but when you have time 🙂 I recommend- gin and tonic, fra angelico on the rocks, and “Gras de Cotnari” Romanian (sort of yellow) wine wine- not too dry, I can’t abide too dry

It great that ORU is so strong in their convictions…but how do they get over the wedding at Cana- Jesus’ first public miracle and all- and he was following His mother’s lead….ooooo….maybe ORU just doesn’t deal with the wedding at Cana? 🙂

it was grape juice and they couldn’t tell the difference?

HA! Jen sighs at being 10 years past 21. Can I laugh because I’m 15 years past it? 🙂

I celebrated my 21st having broken up with my atheist fiance a few months earlier, and instead of buying any alcohol at all, I went home to the farm and had dinner with my parents. Best birthday ever.

    Love you. Hugs.

You guys are sighing because you’re 10-15 years over 21, but I’m super sighing because I’m 5 years UNDER 21…*SUPER SIGH*

    Happy birthday, Kassie!

My convert husband very helpfully offered that it’s “only” old grape juice, really, so what’s the problem? 😉

On my 21st birthday, I was taking a year of medical leave off school and was way to medicated to drink. Instead I went to the National Gallery of Art with my little brothers. (NERD ALERT)This year’s was pretty lame too – I went to the library and ate leftover meatloaf.

I’m sorry to hear about you and Eli 😦 But I am totally impressed with how mature you are being about it. And I’m sure you’re at the start of a long, happy relationship with the Church.

Kewl beans! My birthday was also recently, and a few days after yours! Like you also, I am a convert – thanks be to God! I suppose it would be an honorable thing to abide by any promise you made pursuant to your enrollment. It was, after all, made by you freely of your own will. The LORD (and others) will honor any such decision. As a point of reason, when this semester/term ends, you will no longer be enrolled. That is, there will be a period of lapse in which you will neither technically nor legally be enrolled – though you may intend upon completing undergrad studies there – because no one is enrolled in any classes! 😉
